Brocklehurst Bingo Hall Wants Liquor License
A bingo hall in Brocklehurst has applied for a liquor license so that it can build a lounge inside its establishment. This application is the second one that has been submitted to the city council to debate over by a gaming establishment in the area just this year.
The city council will decide upon the permit application that Chances Gaming Entertainment submitted requesting the rezoning of the Halston Avenue area so that it can allow liquor to be served inside the establishment.
Lake City Casino has also submitted a similar application like so they can serve alcoholic beverages inside their establishment located at Victoria Street. The application was approved by city council vote early this year.
The Chances Gaming Entertainment's permit application has the support of the city administration because it is designated a commercial property which is commonly where drinking establishments are found anywhere in the city. The policies of the city when it comes to development also encourages creating a lenient and good business climate and increased tourism generating activities.
However, the city's social planning council vehemently opposes the permit apllication fearing that combining gambling and serving of alcohol in one place can potentially bring negative situations.
Chances Gaming Entertainment has give its agreement to sign a Good Neighbour Social Contracts which states that the establishments must guarantee the cleanliness and orderliness around its establishment and the proper dispersal of its customers after the game. Two of Chances' outlets in Kelowna and Williams Lake are already serving alcohol in their establishments.
One of the councillors who has opposed the permit application of Chances is Arjun Singh, a member of the council in social planning. He commented that he is against the permit application of Chances because statistics have shown time and again that combining drinking and gambling can have social repercussions.
